Stockmann department store
Stockmann in the center of Helsinki is one of Europe’s largest department stores and a central landmark of the city since 1930. Stockmann Tampere, the second oldest Stockmann department store in Finland, was opened in 1957. Stockmann Turku is the largest department store in Southwestern Finland.
Articon Oy was founded by interior architect Klaus Michalik in 1990. The main activities of the company were interior architecture and furniture design of department stores, stores, exhibition halls. The design work was carried out at the Helsinki, Turku and Tampere Stockmann department stores. In 2000, the most extensive work was the renovation of the entire store premises of the Turku department store.

Academic Bookstore
The Academic Bookstore in Helsinki was designed by Alvar Aalto and completed in 1969.
Several different space and furniture design projects. The most extensive work was the transformation of the basement floor, in which the Academic Bookstore was combined with a corridor with the Stockmann department store. An IT department, Micronia, was designed for the new basement premises and the street level newspaper sales point was renewed. Later, the office premises on the third floor were converted inwto retail premises.

Shopping center designs
Commercial look and space development projects. Several different shopping destinations. The design work often included the proposal and implementation plans for the interior and exterior of the shopping center, as well as the examination and development of signage, access and customer flows.

Service Center Espoo City
Service Centre is a new service concept for public services. The Service Centre includes a library, youth services, a counseling center, a health center, mental health and substance abuse services, National Pension Institute, a service point, Employment Espoo Information Point, and Uusimaa Hospital District laboratory and imaging functions. 6000 brm2.
Designing a new service market concept using service design. Spatial, interior and furniture design of consultation rooms, libraries, medical centers and city services.

Concept design
Concept design The design work included several different spaces. Design of the reception area and entrance, as well as ideation of the façade of the building. The most extensive project was the design of the staff’s three-storey workspaces. This was one of the first plans of the new open office workspace thinking to be implemented. The design wanted to reflect a new-age thinking about workspaces. The idea was that no one has their own workstations. The spatial design was drawn up from a free noisy workspace to a quiet enclosed library space. New types of furniture and facilities, such as desks and meeting rooms, were also designed for the workspaces.

Store and office space design project
The design work included the design of new store furniture and sales items. The aim was to make the space flexible and multifunctional for various products and sports equipment.
The design of the premises included interior design and the design of workstations and break rooms for approximately 30 people.

Spatial and furniture design
Spatial and furniture design. The design work included the design of the lobby area and the counter. In addition, the furniture design of the training facilities. The aim was to modernise the lobby space and calm it down from the noises of the canteen next door. The reception desk had to be designed for changing service and guard personnel. Additional security equipment and outgoing and incoming parcel service had to be adapted to the reception room.

Development of the Riihikallio School Centre property and exploring the possibilities for expansion. Studying the spatial and furniture plan of the new temporary facilities by means of a workshop.

Work on the transformation and expansion of premises. In the plan, the building was expanded with new exhibition spaces and entrances. In addition, new cargo loading and dispatch facilities were planned for the building. The building was designed with new offices, sanitary and break rooms for approximately 30 employees.

ISKU CENTER restaurant
Furnishing base and furniture design. Isku Center is a meeting place for the employees of various businesses, 5,000 students and the staff of Isku’s industrial production facility.
The design work was to furnish the restaurant premises with ISKU furniture and to design the fixed furniture of the space. In addition, a new antler-shaped pendant light set was designed for the space.

Tampere Central Square Vision
Design of the container café for the Tram Café in the Central Square of Tampere, alterations to the interior of the tram.
The work was to convert an old tram into a café space and to design café operations in an outdoor container. In addition, a proposal was drawn up on the design of the tram and the phasing of the design of the trolley. The tram café is part of the City of Tampere’s tram project, which introduces the history of trams in Finland.
